1 Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the UniChat mobile application ("UniChat," "the App," "the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use UniChat.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and UniChat ("we," "us," or "our"). Your use of the Service also constitutes acceptance of our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

2 Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age (or the minimum age required by applicable law in your country) to use UniChat. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement.

If you are between 13 and 18 years of age, you must have the permission of a parent or legal guardian to use the Service, and that parent or guardian must agree to these Terms on your behalf.

UniChat is available globally. It is your responsibility to ensure that your use of the Service complies with the laws applicable in your country or region.

3 Your Account

To use UniChat, you must create an account using a valid mobile phone number or a Google account. You agree to provide accurate, complete, and current information during registration.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately at support@unichat.app if you become aware of any unauthorised access to your account.

You may not create more than one account for the same phone number or Google account. Accounts are non-transferable.

4 The UniChat Service

UniChat provides a real-time cross-language messaging platform. Key features include:

  • Real-Time Messaging: Send and receive text messages instantly with your contacts.
  • Automatic Translation: Messages are automatically translated into each participant's preferred language. UniChat supports 18 languages including English, Hindi, Spanish, French, Japanese, Arabic, and more.
  • Contact Sync: Identify which of your device contacts are on UniChat.
  • Push Notifications: Receive alerts for new messages on iOS and Android.
  • Presence Features: Online status and typing indicators within active conversations.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature or aspect of the Service at any time, with or without notice, though we will make reasonable efforts to notify users of material changes.

5 Acceptable Use

You agree to use UniChat only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree to:

  • Provide truthful information when creating your account and profile.
  • Respect the privacy and rights of other users.
  • Use the Service in a manner consistent with applicable local, national, and international laws and regulations.
  • Take responsibility for all content you send through the Service.

6 Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to use UniChat to:

  • Send spam, unsolicited messages, or commercial communications to users who have not consented to receive them.
  • Harass, abuse, threaten, defame, or intimidate any person.
  • Send content that is unlawful, obscene, pornographic, or otherwise objectionable.
  • Distribute malware, viruses, or any harmful code.
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or falsely claim affiliation with any person or organisation.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any other user's account or to UniChat's servers or infrastructure.
  • Scrape, crawl, or extract data from the Service in an automated manner without our prior written consent.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the UniChat application.
  • Use the Service to engage in any form of fraud or deceptive practice.
  • Promote or facilitate illegal activities of any kind.
Violations: We reserve the right to suspend or permanently terminate any account found to be in violation of these prohibitions, without prior notice. Serious violations may be reported to law enforcement authorities.

7 Intellectual Property

The UniChat application, including its design, code, branding, name, logo, and all associated content created by UniChat, is owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App solely for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the UniChat application or its underlying code without our express written permission.

8 User Content

You retain ownership of the messages and content you send through UniChat ("User Content"). By using the Service, you grant UniChat a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to store, process, and transmit your User Content solely for the purpose of providing the messaging and translation service.

This licence does not give us the right to sell, publicly display, or use your messages for advertising or any purpose beyond operating the Service.

You are solely responsible for the content of your messages. We do not review or monitor message content in real time, except where required by applicable law or in response to specific reports of abuse.

9 Account Termination & Deletion

By You: You may delete your account at any time via Profile → Delete Account within the app. Upon deletion, your authentication credentials are permanently removed and your profile is anonymised. This action is irreversible.

By UniChat: We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time if we determine, in our sole discretion, that you have violated these Terms, engaged in abusive behaviour, or if required by applicable law. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before termination unless doing so would cause harm or is prohibited by law.

Upon termination for any reason, your licence to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 7, 8, 10, 11, and 13) will continue in full force.

10 Disclaimers

The UniChat Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to:

  • Warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
  • Warranties that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or harmful components.
  • Warranties as to the accuracy of automated translations. Translations are generated by automated systems and may not be perfectly accurate. Do not rely on UniChat translations for critical communications where precision is essential.

We are not responsible for the content of messages sent by users. We do not endorse or verify any User Content.

11 Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, UniChat and its operators, affiliates, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service.

Our total liability to you for any claims arising under these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid us (if any) in the 12 months preceding the claim. If you have not made any payments, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for certain types of damages. In such jurisdictions, the above limitations apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.

12 Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via an in-app notification and update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of UniChat after the updated Terms take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

If you do not agree to any changes, you should stop using the Service and delete your account.

13 Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in the applicable jurisdiction.

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
